The Weekly Roundup: Feb 23, 2018

The Weekly Roundup

This week’s weekly roundup is once again more heavily tilted towards free to play titles. The week saw a turn based strategy game of vehicular warfare, two new games from Ketchapp, a whale, and a challenging runner.

As always, while the new free Android games on this list might get the most attention, don’t overlook new paid games. Paid games can often provide a better value as they’re not trying to push you towards in app purchases or wasting your time with advertisements.
Here are 10 new games released in the past week you should be aware of:

Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition

Put simply, Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition is a real mobile fighting game. There are no IAPs to ruin the game’s balance, no timers to worry about, and no characters to collect and power up. It is simply the Street Fighter that fans have come to expect, though with underwhelming graphics. The game is also compatible with Bluetooth controllers and its touchscreen controls can also be edited. Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition is free to try, and the full game costs $4.99. Romance of the Three Kingdoms: The Legend of CaoCao

Romance of the Three Kingdoms: The Legend of CaoCao is a strategy RPG that fans of the Fire Emblem series will find familiar. The game’s core mode pits the user against the AI in the game’s turn based battles that play out on maps made up of square tiles. Players will need to maneuver their commanders to utilize their attack range, take note of the weather and how it impacts the troops on the field, and decide what to do with strategically important buildings. It is a far cry from mobile RPGs that take control out of the hands of the players. Romance of the Three Kingdoms: The Legend of CaoCao is free and contains in app purchases.

Glitchdash

Gltichdash is a new ultra difficult first person runner. Players need to quickly swipe to avoid obstacles like spikes, blocks, and hammers that will end their run as they play through the game’s 8 levels. Though 8 levels doesn’t sound like a lot, the game’s difficulty helps make sure that those levels provide a fair bit of gameplay. Complete with nice graphics and a fitting soundtrack, this is a runner that is a bit heavy on memorization. Gltichdash is free and contains ads and in app purchases.

Ballz Rush

The first of two games from prolific publisher Ketchapp this week, Ballz Rush is a challenging but simple arcade game. Players need to stay ahead of a horde of red balls as they dodge blocks on their way to setting a high score. As with most Ketchapp games, Ballz Rush is free and contains ads and in app purchases.

Wiggle Whale

Wiggle Whale is a SHMUP from 111% that has players take control of a whale being hunted by pirates as it shoots projectiles out of its mouth or blowhole. Sure, why not, maybe the pirates are after some of that wiggling whale booty. Like other 111% titles, Wiggle Whale has simple controls and not a lot of depth. Players shoot pirates and pick up power ups until they are inevitably hit by a projectile or enemy. Wiggle Whale is free and contains ads and in app purchases.
