Ludia Inc., the company behind the recently released GPS enabled augmented reality Jurassic World Alive, comes Warriors of Waterdeep, a new mobile Dungeons & Dragons RPG.
Not to be confused with board game D&D Lords of Waterdeep, Warriors of Waterdeep is turn based RPG that has players build a team of heroes to take on the game’s adventure mode. Warriors of Waterdeep’s battles take place on a grid based battlefield as players and their enemies take turns moving into position and attacking. There are a number of buffs and skills to utilize, enemies to take on, and even a few secret rooms to find.
Despite its team building elements and the direction the mobile RPG genre has been going of late, Warriors of Waterdeep is not a gacha hero collection game. Instead of having players hope try to pull a powerful hero, the game instead focuses its monetization strategy on gear collection. Players are able to draw gear from the game’s card packs, which are available as rewards during play as well as being purchasable using premium currency. Each pack contains a number of different pieces of gear, with duplicate pieces being used to level up a piece of gear.
At this time the new D&D game is only available in Canada and only on Android. Gamers in other parts of the world (or on iOS) looking forward to Warriors of Waterdeep can pre-register on the game’s official website and receive a gift pack when the game launches.
Warriors of Waterdeep is free and contains in app purchases. Here is a trailer with a look at the game:
