Upcoming Android Games: January 2018 and Beyond

Upcoming Android games: Shadowgun Legends
Shadowgun Legends promises impressive graphics

A number of the big games that were either expected to launch in December 2017, or had the potential to launch before the end of the year did not quite get released in time. The releases of unexpected games like Bridge Constructed Portal and the earlier than expected release of Arena of Valor helped make up for that. That should make for an exciting crop of upcoming Android games that will be released in the first few months of 2018. January should see the releases of World of Warships Blitz and could finally see the global launches of anticipated titles like The Sims Mobile and Shadowgun Legends.

Please note that sometimes games will launch a day prior to the official release date, or the release date might be based on a particular time zone. For example, Monument Valley 2 was released at 9 PM GMT, which is 1 AM PST, and 9 PM AEDT.

Some of the games on this list may already be available in the usual regions that get in early on soft launches (Australia, Canada, parts of Southeast Asia). So Google Play links are provided whenever a game is either available somewhere, or has opened up pre-registration. Some of these games also have pre-registration bonuses if pre-register on their official site so check out Android Sloth’s list of games with open pre-registration. So here are 10+ games that are coming soon to Android:

World of Warships Blitz

World of Warships Blitz will let players take to the battle to the water this January. WOW Blitz is being developed by Wargaming and KingNet and offers mobile gamers a chance to take their wars to the seas. The game features 7 vs 7 battles where players each use one of the game’s 90 warships to take down their enemies. The ships hail from Germany, Japan, the USA, and the USSR and come in 4 classes that have their own gameplay styles. The game is already available in select regions as part of its soft launch phase. World of Warships Blitz will be free to play and contain in app purchases, its scheduled release date is January 18th, 2018. Update: Now available.

Marvel Strike Force

FoxNext’s Marvel Strike Force was first announced in November 2017, and has since begun testing the game in select regions. Strike Force is a hero collection game featuring both heroes and villains from the Marvel universe. The game promises strategic battles and high end graphics, but users should temper their expectations as the game will most likely not break from the mold of existing hero collection games. Marvel Strike Force will be free when it launches some time in 2018, it does not have a confirmed release date but an unreleased version of the game is already available in select countries (and on select devices). Pre-registration is available.

Ragnarok Rush

While the not one of the upcoming Android games that MMORPG fans are waiting for, Gravity is planning on releasing a new Ragnarok game. Ragnarok RUSH is an upcoming hero collection gacha game featuring the characters and monsters of the classic MMORPG Ragnarok Online. Players will be able to pick one of 5 jobs and then further refine their choice with two job changes. Of course since this is a hero collection gacha game, players will be able to collect a variety of characters to battle alongside. The collectible characters in Ragnarok RUSH are the game’s monsters. Players will be able to summon creatures from the lowly but cute Poring to the also cute but significantly fiercer Baphomet Jr. Ragnarok Rush will be free to play and contain in app purchases. There is no official release date at this time. Update: Now available.

Chain Strike

Chain Strike

Com2uS, the people behind games like Summoners War, Soccer Spirits, Light: Fellowship of Lux, and more, have wrapped up the beta phase for their upcoming strategy RPG Chain Strike. Chain Strike is a gacha game with many of the features players have to expect from the genre, including auto-combat, hero collection, various means of powering up and evolving heroes, etc. It also features a unique battle system that requires players to focus on the positioning of their characters to pull off various combination attacks. This might not be one of the biggest upcoming Android games, but it’s a future release worth keeping an eye on. Chain Strike will be free and contain in app purchases. There is currently no official release date, but expect some news in the near future. Update: Pre-registration now available and the game is now due in March.

The Sims Mobile

The Sims Mobile puts players in control of just a single Sim to start off with, and lets players take control over more Sims as they progress. Players will control their Sims as they develop careers in fashion, business, or the culinary field. They can also help their Sims develop relationships with other Sims. Those relationships can be romantic, and lead to marriage and having a child. Here’s a preview of the game with more information. As far as pure popularity, this might be one of the biggest upcoming games that has been announced so far. The Sims Mobile will be free and contain in app purchases, it was originally expected to launch before the end of 2017, and the game could be made available fairly soon. Pre-registration is available.
