Spike City is Nitrome’s Newest Mobile Platformer

Spike City

Indie developer and publisher Nitrome has become a go to source for new Android releases that aren’t packed with in app purchases thanks to the releases of games like Tower Fortress, Nano Golf, and most recently Colorblind. Now the UK based company has released Spike City, a vertical that has players swipe their way towards freedom and away from a constantly rising pool of lava.

Developed by Joseph Grisbbin, Spike City features both an endless mode and an unlockable level mode that lets players take on the game in smaller chunks. As users play through the game they can collect coins that can be used to customize their spike with new faces and looks as well as the ability to boost some of the game’s power-ups. Of course to get to those coins players will need to dodge a myriad of hazards, mostly primarily consisting of spikes, and figure out the best way to get to each coin while being mindful of the ever-rising tide of lava that’s coming after them.

Spike City is free and contains ads and an in app purchase to remove them. Here is an excerpt from the game’s description and a trailer with more information:

  • Spiky platforming action!
  • Just swipe up, down, left, and right to move around!
  • Stick into walls with your powerful spike!
  • Endless challenges!
  • Awesome Level Mode!
  • Epic boss battles!
  • Collect cool power-ups!
  • Customise your character!
  • Retro pixel graphics!
