Already available in Japan, Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 is an original new game in the long-running Shin Megami Tensei franchise. Like other SMT games, Dx2 is an RPG that involves summoning and battling a wide range of demons. The game revolves around battles between competing factions of Devil Downloaders (Dx2), humans who have the ability to summon demons using their smartphones. Players will be able to collect, power up and fuse demons as they explore the game’s dungeons and battle demons.
Made to be accessible for new players, the game features an auto mode, all new 3D versions of the franchises demons and easy to pick up mechanics. For series regulars, the game promises the return of many of the series’ demons, as well as a number of mechanics that SMT vets will find familiar.
The combat is turn based, and revolves around discovering and taking advantage of each of your opponent’s weaknesses while being careful not to go up against their strengths. The system is a little more complex than the standard elemental advantage system used in many mobile RPGs thanks to attacks having their own properties and weaknesses are not readily apparent when fighting a monster for the first time.
Beyond the unique turn based combat system, Dx2 offers players a story with Japanese voice acting, a unique urban Japan setting, and PVP. Also of note is that fact that unlike many hero collection games, Liberation Dx2 is played entirely in portrait mode.
Those that participated in the beta test for Dx2 should not delete their apps if they plan on playing the game when it launches. When the game is launched players will be able update their game in order to continue playing. Progress made during the beta test will carry forward to the launch version of the game as long as players have not uninstalled the app, have a transfer ID, or linked the game to their Facebook account.
Shin Megami Tensei Liberation Dx2 will be free and contain in app purchases. Pre-registration is now open and here is a trailer with a look at the game:
