The basketball hall of famer has made it to mobile thanks to the release of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn on Android and iOS.
The new Shaq Fu is a tongue-in-cheek beat ’em up that sees Shaq go from stage to stage beating up ninjas, demons, and bros across the globe. Shaq’s mission is to save the world from a group of demons disguised as celebrities as they try to turn humans into morons in order to take over the world.
The game uses a standard virtual joystick and button combination that players familiar with mobile action RPGs will be familiar with. Along with Shaq’s martial arts skills players will be able to use some of his special abilities, turn into the Big Diesel to smash enemies using a power-suit, and pick up certain dropped enemy weapons for some extra fire (or sword) power.
The game never takes itself seriously, frequently making pop culture references and breaking the fourth wall. The game’s Shaq is voiced by Shaquille O’Neal himself and players will get to hear him deliver many of the game’s jokes and one-liners.
The original Shaq Fu, first released on the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, is famous for being an absolutely terrible fighting game. For its sequel, Big Deez Production opted to turn to crowdfunding to raise more than $450,000 toward the development of the game. Though crowdfunding was concluded in 2014, the was not released until June 2018, when it launched on PC and consoles. Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn has received a mixed reaction from critics and fans, currently sitting at 73% positive Steam user reviews.
Unlike the PC and console versions of the game which are priced at $19.99, the mobile version of A Legend Reborn is free to try and the full game can be unlocked for $4.99.
