Czech developer Madfinger Games has announced a new game in the Shadowgun universe, Shadowgun War Games. The game looks to be a smaller, more team oriented experience than the ambitious Shadowgun Legends.
Shadowgun War Games will be an esports focused, team oriented game with hero shooter elements. To start things off, the game will include a capture the flag mode as its core mode.
Gamers will be able to play as heroes from the Shadowgun universe, complete with their own skills, weapons, and abilities. Those looking forward to the game can sign up for updates and for a chance to be invited into the game’s beta on Shadowgun War Games’ official website. The game’s beta test is due to start later this year.
War Games will indeed be a separate game, though it will have the same control scheme and account system as Madfinger Games’ Shadowgun Legends.
Released late last year, Shadowgun Legends aimed to create an online shooter experience with persistent online elements. The game was quickly up against a wave of new and extremely popular battle royale shooters that instantly became popular with Android users. While titles like Rules of Survival and PUBG Mobile have gone on to surpass 10 million or 50 million downloads on Google Play and have risen to being among the top grossing games in many countries, Legends has only surpassed 1 million downloads on Google Play.
This announcement does not mark an end for Shadowgun Legends, which recently received a new 4vs4 team oriented mode as part of its 0.6.0 patch. Madfinger has promised to continue supporting the game going forward.
