Asmodee Digital’s Adaptation of Board Game Quarto Now in Beta
Asmodee Digital is publishing another digital board game adaptation on Android. This time the digital board game publisher has started a beta test for an adaptation of the popular strategic board game Quarto.
Created by Blaise Müller and published in physical form by Gigamic, Quarto is designed for two players and played on a 4 by 4 board using one common pool of pieces. Each player’s goal is to make a line or square using pieces that have a common characteristic. That could mean creating a diagonal line of pieces that are all square, a 2 by 2 square of pieces that are the same color, or whatever combination players can use to win.
Beyond just pulling from one common pool of pieces, players do not get to choose their own pieces. Players choose the piece their opponent will need to place, adding another layer of strategy to the game.
Quarto offers gamers solo play against multiple AI difficulty settings as well as challenges that hone in on particular strategies or techniques. Those looking to play with friends can check out the game’s pass and play multiplayer mode which has both players take turns using the same device. There are no online multiplayer options at this time.
Players looking to test the game can apply for the game’s beta through their Asmodee account. The beta is available on Android, iOS and PC via Steam. Here is a trailer with a look at the game:
