Not long after its global launch, NetEase’s multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game Onmyoji Arena is having its first major crossover event. Two characters from Inuyasha are joining the newly launched MOBA during the Onmyoji Arena x Inuyasha crossover event.
Onmyoji Arena combines features that mobile MOBA fans are used to with a few twists. The game allows users to spectate matches, has a unique art style and characters, and a 3 vs 3 vs 3 mode. It also offers the standard 5 vs 5 mode MOBA users are familiar with, along with co-op options, and loadout customization before matches.
The new characters joining the fray are the half-demon Inuyasha himself and his brother Sesshomaru. Both characters can be obtained for free by participating in the crossover event and collecting shards that can be used to unlock the two classic manga and anime characters.
Inuyasha was a long running Japanese manga series that started its run in 1996 and concluded in 2008. It follows Inuyasha and Kagome as they travel across Sengoku period Japan and recover shards of a magical jewel. The manga has been adapted into multiple anime series and animated movies.
Crossover events are a popular way for mobile games to add new characters while at the same time attracting fans of those characters to download the game. It’s a common tactic for gacha games like The Alchemist Code, which most recently held a Final Fantasy XV crossover event. Other titles like Puzzle and Dragons and Valkyrie Connect have also held recent crossovers. Successful events have the potential to drive user spending by giving them the incentive of acquiring limited time characters.
The Onmyoji Arena x Inuyasha event is set to run until August 9th, 2018.
Onyoji Arena is free and contains in app purchases.
