Netmarble Japan has released a new cinematic trailer for the upcoming The King of Fighters AllStar.
The King of Fighters is a classic fighting game franchise from SNK. The series started as in the arcades with The King of of Fighters ’94, and has had annual releases up until 2007. Although the 2D fighting game series was well known as a fixture in arcades, it has appeared on numerous platforms from the Neo Geo to the PlayStation 4.
Those hoping for a classic fighting game on their smartphones may be disappointed, as the game is described as an action RPG rather than a fighting game on its official website. All Star’s move away from the franchise’s fighting game roots is further emphasized in the nature of the trailer as it centers around fighters going up against waves of enemies rather than fighting each other. Previously released footage of the game did show plenty of one on one action, so gamers shouldn’t expect this to be just another generic action RPG where players go from small room to small room taking on groups of enemies.
Netmarble is a Korean publisher than specializes in mobile games. The company is best known for major releases like MMORPG Lineage 2: Revolution, strategy MOBA Star Wars: Force Arena and action RPG Marvel Future Fight. Some of its more recent releases include the strategy game Iron Throne and fishing title Fishing Strike. Among Netmarble’s upcoming releases is Knight’s Chronicle, which should soon see its global release, pre-registration for the game is available.
The King of Fighters AllStar will be free to play and contain in app purchases. It does not currently have a release date, nor has an English version been unveiled at this time. Look for more information on the game on June 15th, 2018. Here’s the game’s cinematic trailer:
