Those longing for the return of classic first person RPGs like Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder now have a mobile game that should, if nothing more, bring back some fond memories of first person dungeon crawling adventure. Hag’s Castle is a more action oriented take on the old school first person dungeon crawler sub-genre, falling firmly in the action adventure category rather than being labeled an RPG.
Players find themselves in a Scottish castle filled with monsters they need to overcome and traps they need to avoid. Armed with a sword and magic spell casting familiar, players will explore dungeons, gardens and every other nook and cranny that Hag’s Castle has to offer.
Played in portrait mode, the game splits the screen into a control panel with direction and context dependent buttons, and a 3D first person view of the main character’s surroundings. Not quite the pseudo-3D graphics of the late 80s and early 90s, the castle and all of the enemies players will face are completely 3D. Players who find themselves lost can take advantage of the game’s “look-around” view to get a better idea of their surroundings while getting a better appreciation of the game’s graphics.
Hag’s Castle is $3.99 and does not contain any ads or in app purchases. Here’s a trailer with a look at the action adventure dungeon crawler:
