Yes, These Games Are Coming To Android… Eventually

Alto's Odyssey
Don't expect to see Alto's Odyssey on Android for at least a few months.

Android gamers are often left behind when it comes to indie games. Sometimes games are released on iOS, and months later brought to Android. Other times they remain iOS exclusive.

There are many reasons for what Android gamers often end up drawing the short straw when it comes to indie games, particularly paid titles. They include the challenges associated with testing a game to make sure it works on a range of Android devices, fears of piracy, and the fact that paid Android games rarely receive the attention (or sales) of their iOS counterparts. There are of course exceptions, like Game Dev Tycoon which had 52% higher day 1 sales on Android than iOS according to developer Greenheart Games.

So here are a few of the notable indie titles that are either already available on iOS or are coming soon to to the App Store, and the available information about their Android releases:

Evoland 2

Evoland 2: A Slight Case of Space Time Continuum Disorder hits many of the same notes as the original game. It takes players on a journey through many different gameplay and art styles that have been used in video games over the years. So gamers can expect their experience to fundamentally change as they progress. They might be in a pixel-art RPG for one moment, then in a fighting game in the next. Evoland 2 is now available on the App Store for $6.99.

Is Evoland 2 coming to Android? Yes. Evoland 2 is coming to Android.

Alto’s Odyssey

Like the previous two games on the list, the sequel to Alto’s Adventure is already available on iOS for $4.99. Alto’s Odyssey offers much of what made Alto’s Adventure such a hit while adding new features like moving grind rails, hot air balloons, wall riding, and a host of different environments to play in.

Is Alto’s Odyssey coming to Android? Most likely. The game’s developers have stated that they are “looking to come to Android”. That might mean once again working with a publisher like Noodlecake Studios, which published the Android version of Alto’s Adventure.
When is Alto’s Odyssey coming to Android? No definitive timeline has been given, but if it comes to Android, it will be a matter of months.

Silent Streets: The Mockingbird’s Last Dive

Silent Streets is an interactive narrative game from developer Funbakers and Playdius, the publisher than has released titles like the award winning “Bury me, my Love” and A Normal Lost Phone. The game puts players in the shoes of a detective in the Victorian era town of Snowport. Players will need to uncover the town’s mysteries as they talk to citizens and investigate crime scenes. Silent Streets: The Mockingbird’s Last Dive is set to be the first title in a series of Silent Streets games and it will be available on iOS on March 1st for $2.99.

Fornite Battle Royale

Fornite is Epic Games’ popular shooter and its signature free to play battle royale mode is among the most popular games on PC. Fornite takes a much lighter approach to the battle royale genre, focusing less on gritty survival and more on having imaginative weapons and letting players craft their own defensive structures. Fornite is available on PC and an invite event for the game is rolling out iOS. The mobile version of the game promises the same experience as the PC and console versions of the game, including the same content and cross play between platforms.
Is Fornite coming to Android? Yes.
When Fornite Battle Royale coming to Android? “In the next few months”
Please note that while the game is coming, expect some steep device requirements. The iOS invite event requires an iPhone 6S, iPad Air 2 or a newer device. While hard to predict what that would translate to when the game comes out on Android (or when specs are finalized), don’t expect to be able to play Fortnite on older or mid-range Android devices.

Holy Potatoes! We’re In Space?!

Holy Potatoes! We’re In Space?! is a follow up to Holy Potatoes! A Weapon Shop?!, and it will be available on iOS on March 1st. The game takes the charming characters from A Weapon Shop and puts them in space. Players will need to manage their crew, craft new weapons, and explore the cosmos with their pet space cat.
