Final Fantasy XV: Pocked Edition is Now Available

Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition

Just over a week after Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia was released outside of Japan, Square Enix has released another mobile Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is now available on Android and iOS. The game takes is a mobile retelling of the Final Fantasy XV story. In the game players will go on a road trip with Prince Noctis and his friends as they attempt to reclaim his kingdom after an invasion from the forces of Niflheim. To do that Noctis and co. will need to defeat lots of monsters, see the world, and get a lot stronger. Along the way there are also huge enemies to take down, quick time events, camping, and chocobo riding. Typical road trip stuff (unless your road trips involve zombies).

This is the second appearance that Final Fantasy XV has made on mobile, following the release of Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire, a strategy game made by Epic Action LLC (a subsidiary of Machine Zone Inc, the makers of Game of War). More notably, it is also one of the few new games not built around in app purchases Square Enix as created in the past few years, with most of the company’s games being free to play, ports or in the case of Final Fantasy Dimensions II, a paid version of a game that was originally built around IAPs.

Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition consists of 10 episodes, all of which are available now. The first episode is free, and the rest are available via in app purchase. Episodes 2 and 3 are $0.99 each, 4-10 are $3.99 each, and a bundle that includes the full game is $19.99. Word of caution, Final Fantasy XV: Pocked Edition has a minimum storage space requirement of 5GB, or 8GB+ for the high resolution version. Here is an excerpt from the game’s Google Play description and an official trailer with more information:

The Tale of the Chosen King, Savior to the Star.

After years of fighting, the nations of Lucis and Niflheim at last agree to an armistice.

As a symbol of this promised peace, Noctis, crown prince of Lucis, is to wed the Lady Lunafreya of Tenebrae.

The prince sets forth for his wedding on the eve of the signing ceremony, sent off by his father, King Regis.
Unbeknownst to Noctis, however, the journey ahead is fraught with perils…
