What is Data Wing?

Data Wing is a racing game with an AI themed story attached to it. You play as Data Wing, and have to complete tasks for an AI. These tasks boil down to completing various racing modes across the game’s 39 levels. These modes include hot lap, circuit, races against AI ghosts, and more. Many of the levels have absolutely no replay value, as their only goal is to reach the finish line. Others have hidden collectibles or leaderboards that you can compete with friends on. Beyond the racing, there’s a story that you can read through, and the collectibles offer bits and pieces of info about the world outside of the machine that Data Wing is a part of.

Data Wing is a fun ride while it lasts. Speeding through the game’s levels is great, and getting speed boosts while near a wall and facing away from it gives the game some depth. That depth isn’t enough to warrant coming back to replay most of the levels though. The number of levels that have bonus objectives or leaderboards isn’t terribly high, and even getting all of the collectibles isn’t very challenging. A few more difficult levels or goals would have definitely helped the game. That being said, the game looks good, sounds good, and the controls are spot on. The story and its attempts at humour might be a bit hit or miss, but if you dislike the story you can always skip through it. What’s left is a fun racing game that you’ll enjoy for a little while and then move on.
