Garena is planning on releasing an English version of Contra: Return in Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and other Southeast Asian regions. Pre-registration in those countries is now open.
The mobile Contra title was created by Tencent in partnership with Konami and gives gamers the chance to run and gun on the go as they take on hordes of enemies, bosses, play co-op, and try their hand at PVP matches.
Fans of the series will be happy to know that the game retains much of the shoot ’em up gameplay the Contra franchise is known for. Players will find themselves running, jumping, and ducking as they mow down waves of enemies while heading across each of the game’s levels.
Though the upcoming SEA version of Contra: Return will have English as an option, gamers should not be quick to expect a global release. Garena is responsible for publishing a number of mobile titles in Asia, including Arena of Valor’s SEA release, but has only launched one mobile game in the West.
Contra: Return is currently available for Google Play users in Taiwan and Hong Kong but the game is entirely in Chinese. Because the currently available version of the game shares a Google Play listing with the upcoming Southeast Asian release, it is highly likely that an English language patch for Contra: Return will be released in the near future.
Contra: Return will be free and contain in app purchases.
