As Square Enix continues to release new Final Fantasy titles, they have also worked on their other franchises. While the bigger story might be that Chrono Trigger is now available on Steam, the big news for Android gamers is that the classic RPG has received a major update.
Chrono Trigger was originally released on the SNES in 1995 and is often described as one of the best RPGs of all time. It has since been released on the original Playstation alongside Final Fantasy IV, the Nintendo DS, and mobile devices. The game arrived on Android in 2012 and the port has received very mixed reviews from customers, with complaints often centering around crashes, the game’s controls and the save system.
Square Enix’s new update seeks to address some of these complaints. The game not includes an auto save system, with cloud saves. Players can now use gamepads, and the game is compatible with Android TV devices. The onscreen controls and screen layout have also been improved. This update also includes upgraded graphics and audio.
The iOS version of the game has received a similar update. These updates are meant to bring the mobile versions of the game up to the same level as the game’s Steam release. The Steam version of the game is based on the mobile version.
Chrono Trigger is $9.99 and does not contain any ads or in app purchases. Here is a trailer of the new PC release and an excerpt from the game’s Google Play description with more information:
