Gamers looking forward to Pearl Abyss’ graphically impressive MMORPG finally have some more concrete information about Black Desert Mobile’s global release schedule thanks to news from an investor conference call. Unfortunately, it’s not great news if you were hoping to play the game in English in the near future.
Pearl Abyss has announced that the MMORPG is scheduled to be released in Southeast Asia (SEA) in Q3 2018, while gamers in Japan and North America won’t see the game until Q1 2019. That timeline is likely not what gamers in North America and Europe were hoping for when the game was originally announced in 2017 and released in Korea earlier this year. It should be noted that games released in Southeast Asia are almost always available in English.
Black Desert Mobile launched in Korea in February of this year and is currently the countries second highest grossing game on Google Play. Black Desert Mobile generated 41.6 billion SKW ($39 million USD) in revenue. The game’s popularity is, in part, a result of some of the most impressive visuals of any mobile game. This helped it achieve over 5 million pre-registrations prior to launch. After the game’s February 28th launch it has seen a number of updates including the addition of new characters and content. Pearl Abyss plans to keep adding new content in the future, including siege warfare and other PVP content.
As part of the company’s Q1 2018 financial presentation, Pearl Abyss also mentioned that they have a casual MMO in the works. Code-named “Project V”, the mobile MMO is scheduled to open in the second half of 2018. It will look to target a more broad group of users than Black Desert Mobile. That is likely regarding the Korean market, and the project may or may not eventually see a launch in other countries.
The game may be a while off, so here’s one of the game’s trailers with a look at the game:
