Red Bull has launched a sequel to its popular bike racing game Bike Unchained, which has managed to accumulate more than 5 million downloads through Google Play. Bike Unchained 2 looks completely different from its predecessor and seeks to become the go to mobile mountain biking game.
The game offers players two ways to play: the trick focused slopestyle mode and fast paced downhill racing. The game’s downhill racing mode features a multiplayer element as players race against the ghosts of their competitors. As they progress through the game gamers will receive advice from in-game mentors and upgrade their gear in order to be faster and pull of better tricks.
Fans of the original Bike Unchained will quickly notice that some significant changes have been made to the game. The biggest change is Bike Unchained 2 is played in portrait mode instead of landscape. Players will also quickly see that the game’s developers have chosen to go with a more realistic art style as opposed to the more stylized approach of the original.
The combination leads to a game that simultaneously tries to focus on realism in its presentation while having more approachable one handed controls. Pekka Kupiainen, the producer of Bike Unchained 2, described how the game’s developers decided on the game’s direction:
“When we started working on Bike Unchained 2, we decided from the beginning we wanted to listen to what players that had played the first version had to say. We knew we had a good thing going with the first Bike Unchained, but players told us they wanted more realism. It made sense for us to design the sequel with a focus on delivering that realism through stunning visuals and a gameplay experience that allows beginners and veterans to feel the excitement of riding bikes”
Bike Unchained 2 is free and contains ads and in app purchases.
