Dinosaur Survival Game ARK: Survival Evolved Now Available

Studio Wildcard has officially launched the Android version of ARK: Survival Evolved, letting gamers explore the game’s dinosaur filled world on the go for the first time.

ARK is a survival game that drops players on an island filled with dinosaurs and tasks them with doing whatever they can to stay alive in their new environment. That means crafting new items, building structures, and even tame dinosaurs to aid you on your journey.

The game was originally launched as a Steam Early Access title in 2015, and has evolved and added numerous features since then. It eventually fully launched on PC and home consoles in 2017.

The mobile version of the game promises much of the same content as the PC counterparts, with a few small changes and one key difference: monetization. While the PC and console versions of the game are paid titles with optional expansion packs, the Android and iOS releases is free to play and contain in app purchases and a subscription option.

ARK’s new mobile subscription service, called Primal Pass, will remove ads, give users free items, double the amount of experience points they earn, and offer a few other benefits. The pass will be $3.99 per month or $34.99 for the year. On top of that players are able to purchase a new premium currency called Ancient Amber, which lets them acquire certain buffs, unique structures, and resurrect their fallen pets. Players are also able to acquire Ancient Amber from large predators, amber veins, ads, and other activities.

Those upset over a game including both premium currency and a subscription option are able to hop on to the game’s Primal Pass exclusive servers which will disable structures that can be purchased with Ancient Amber.

The game is not currently available in South Korea, Japan, and certain regions. It also has steeper requirements than most, needing an Android device with 3GB or more ram and up to date Vulkan support.

The game’s original developer Studio Wildcard has tapped War Drum Studios to handle ARK Mobile. War Drum Studios is one of the more experienced developers when it comes to porting games to mobile. The Florida based company handled the releases of Rockstar’s games on Android and iOS. That includes Max Payne, GTA: San Andreas, and Bully.
