7/17/2018 Update: Alto’s Odyssey’s Android release date is July 26th, 2018.
Alto’s Odyssey is coming to Android, and while that should come as no surprise given Alto’s Adventure’s 10+ million downloads on the platform, it’s welcome news for fans eagerly anticipating getting their hands on the sequel. Those eager fans can now pre-register for the game on Google Play.
Like its predecessor, Odyssey is an endless runner that has players ride down an endless mountain collecting coins and jumping off of dunes to grab some air (and more coins). It has a less frantic feel than most runners, with more of an emphasis on timing rather than fast twitch reactions. The game offers players different biomes for players to ride through on their descent, vastly expanding on the first game’s landscape variety.
Alto’s Odyssey was originally released in February 2018 on iOS. While an Android version was always expected, it was a matter of how long Android users would have to wait for the next chapter in Alto’s journey. Noodlecake and Team Alto have announced that Alto’s Odyssey will launch on Android in July 2018. Although it will launch next month, Alto’s latest game was not part of Noodlecake Studios’ 2018 preview, which showed off some of the games that the Canadian publisher would be bringing to Android and iOS. The list included the already released Getting Over It as well as platformer Suzy Cube, which is due out later today.
Odyssey also features a zen mode that takes away a lot of the game’s more flashy and attention grabbing features, like collectibles and coins, letting players focus on the game serenely riding down desert dunes. Fans of the game’s art can also take advantage of the game’s photo mode to try and get a great screenshot of their journey.
Alto’s Odyssey is set to be released on Android in July 2018. Here’s a trailer with a look at the game:
