Pixel Toys, the UK developer behind the action packed Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade, is planning to release head-to-head strategy game Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realm War on Android and iOS this fall.
Realm War will have players collect, level up, and build decks using some of the characters from the Age of Sigmar fantasy world. Players will then take their warband decks and battle head-to-head against other players.
Like other head-to-head strategy games, Realm War will feature short matches where players summon their heroes using a constantly refilling pool of energy in an effort to take down their opponent’s base. The game looks to differentiate itself by offering players 3D graphics and the ability to collect characters from a popular existing franchise.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realm War should not be confused with Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Champions. The latter is a physical card game that will soon have a digital version.
The mobile head-to-head strategy genre is crowded right now, with more than a dozen games trying to capitalize on Clash Royale’s success. Though games like Battle Boom and Mini Guns attempted to provide gamers with a new PVP strategy experience, their success has been very limited. At this time the only games in the top 300 grossing titles on Google Play in the United States that fall into this genre are Clash Royale and South Park: Phone Destroyer. The results are not any better when looking at other regions.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realm War will be free to play and contain in app purchases. The game is currently available in the Philippines and Vietnam. It is scheduled to launch worldwide this fall.
