What is Paddle?

Paddle is a simple and challenging game that will look familiar to anyone who has ever played Breakout or one of the many similar games where you bounce a ball on a paddle. Of course there are no blocks to destroy in Paddle, and the paddle used to keep the ball from dropping is drawn by the player. That means that in order to keep the ball in the air you have to draw a new paddle every time you want the ball to bounce. It can be drawn at the angle of your choice and only lasts a few seconds before disappearing. That makes reaction time a big part of the game. Add to that multi-ball power-ups and things can get hectic.

Recommendation

Paddle is fun, if a bit plain. The UI lacks any sort of flavor, but does the job. Paddle drawing is just as responsive as you would want it to be, and it never feels like unresponsive controls cause a game over. Beyond that, there isn’t much to this game. The levels are static, with the color pallet and number of balls (depending on multi-ball bonuses) changing as you progress. It would have been nice if the level obstacles changed over time, or if there was more power-up variety, but what’s there is well-made. This is not the sort of game that will impress many people, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth playing. In its current state Paddle is still a lot of fun and worth a download.
