What is Finger Jump?

The unfortunately named Jump Game – Finger Jump(Free) is a single tap vertical platformer. As you play using one of 6 different characters you automatically run along procedurally generated platforms and tap to jump from one to the next. Platforms may contain obstacles like trap doors or power-ups like shields, making choosing a platform an important part of the game. Each character has their own stats, with some excelling at jumping while others are better at jumping off of special spring platforms, etc. Characters are unlocked and upgraded using either coins earned in game or reasonably priced in app purchases. One of the things that separates Finger Jump from most vertical platforms is that gameplay is not endless, but based on a timer. Your goal is to get as far up as possible before time runs out.

Finger Jump is a fun take on the vertical platformer genre. The use of a timer instead of being endless like other recent vertical platformers (Blobout, Puddi Jump) give gameplay a feel of urgency and encourage risk taking. Getting a high score becomes about having the perfect strategy for maximizing your score and not about making sure you survive by taking the safest possible route. The controls and physics do not feel perfect, but they’re still tight enough for a game that demands accuracy. Even though you might blame the controls or physics for your death every once in a while, the real reason is much more likely to be a matter of player skill. That, along with nice graphics and a variety of characters to unlock make Finger Jump a game worth playing for anyone interested in a quick gaming fix.
